Carbon Removal at a Heritage Property

Harrogate Gable

We recently attended another heritage property in Harrogate for our carbon removal service.

This Grade II listed property was built in the late 18th century and features many of the traditional elements of this period. The house itself was built in sandstone with Westmorland slate roof with shaped kneelers and stone coping. There are two storeys, two bays with sashed windows, and the main block has quoins and a central doorway in Classical style.

Upon initial inspection, it was clear this was going to be a great project with fantastic results. The client was informed of any detrimental effects the solutions may have on any foliage, and these were prepared and bagged prior to our arrival. Inclusive of our initial prep work, we also made sure the huge bay sash windows were well covered and sealed to protect them from any residue splashes.

A cleaning solution was applied to the stone to break down the carbon bond, and the residue was removed using the DOFF steam cleaning system. Due to the stubborn nature of carbon, this application has to be repeated multiple times, to ensure all carbon was removed. This gentle approach to stone cleaning is preferred to other methods, and especially for heritage properties such as this as there is minimal impact to the building material. There is no high-pressure blasting involved, and, as always, it is only time and patience which enables us to provide exceptional results.

Another happy client, and another beautiful heritage property to add to our portfolio.
