'A rolling stone gathers no moss' is an ancient Latin saying, well when was the last time you saw a stone just rolling down the road.


Stone does gather moss, and lichen and carbon deposits and a whole plethera of unsightly looking coatings.

The cleaning of stone has traditionally involved chemicals such as acid, or harsh abrasive techniques which damages the stone. Other more moden techniques have also been used such as high powered jet washers.

All of these methods are destructive in nature and will harm the stone being cleaned or the environment.

At Stone Revival we believe that this should never happen and we never employ any of the traditional methods to clean stone or brick.

After a number of years researching the best way to clean stone and brick without causing any damage we have chosen the DOFF system which allows us to undertake our work knowing that we are doing no harm.

DOFF System


DOFF is a steam based stone cleaning system. It’s unlike any other steam system and can achieve temperatures 150°C at the nozzle end. The operator is able to vary the temperature and pressure to remove either many types of paint or biological matter.

DOFF cleans stonework and masonry using high temperature steam. When the temperature in the system is high the pressure on the surface being cleaned is very gentle and the volume of water is low. The surface is therefore not saturated and will be dry within minutes
.

The steam/superheated water will remove moss, algae, fungi and other biological matter and will also kill off spores. This means there’s then no need to use a chemical biocide during the removal process or as a protection against further biological activity.
