Recently we had the pleasure of cleaning and carrying out multiple stone repairs at Rudding Park.
Rudding Park Gates and Walls is a Grade II listed Regency-style stone gateway in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and marks as an entrance to the Grade I counterpart of Rudding Park House. It is a classic example of traditional wrought iron gates surrounded by ashlar stone and dates back to the early 19th century.
Upon initial inspection, it was evident the stonework was in a state of disrepair, and there were sections of the gateway which were in urgent need of replacement.
This was a great project for our stonemasonry team as they were able to utilise and showcase their skills in large and intricate detailing.
To complete the overall presentation of the project, the cleaning team finished by using our carbon removal service to treat the remaining stone. A cleaning solution was applied to the stone to break down the carbon bond, and the residue was removed using the DOFF steam cleaning system. Due to the stubborn nature of carbon, this application has to be repeated multiple times, to ensure all carbon was removed. This gentle approach to stone cleaning is preferred to other methods, and especially for heritage properties such as this as there is minimal impact to the building material. There is no high-pressure blasting involved, and it is only time and patience which enables us to provide exceptional results.
A great project with excellent final results and happy clients!
