Red brick Victorian houses are amongst the most characterful properties in the UK, celebrated for their craftsmanship, rich materials, and architectural detail. However, after more than a century of exposure to pollution, weather, and biological growth, even the most beautiful of properties can lose their beauty. Cleaning such a property requires more than standard exterior pressure washing; it demands experience and genuine respect for heritage.
This was the challenge we encountered with our latest project. Before any cleaning began, the team carried out a detailed visual assessment of the property to determine the best approach for the carbon removal on this heritage property. Our approach focused on removing dirt, carbon staining, moss and biological growth, without using aggressive methods which may potentially damage the brick face or mortar.
A cleaning solution was applied to the brickwork to break down the carbon staining, and the residue was removed using the DOFF steam cleaning system. This gentle approach to cleaning is preferred to other methods, and especially for heritage properties such as this to ensure minimal impact to the building material. There is no high-pressure blasting involved and, as always, it is only time and patience which enables us to provide excellent results.
Our team works in line with the best practices and, where required, adapts methods to meet conservation approval for listed or historically significant properties. This ensures the building is preserved not just for today, but for future generations. Once the cleaning was complete, the red brickwork revealed its original warmth and depth of colour, free from staining and still rich with history.
Another very satisfied client, please see their wonderful review below:
“I contacted Stone Revival for the brick cleaning of my Victorian property. I was assured from the outset by Stone Revival on the cleaning method that would be the most applicable for my property. My property was built of red brick in 1901 and over the last 100 years the red brick had lost its colour and turned grey and black so I was initially very sceptical if these methods would make much of a difference with the age of the property. However, I gave the go ahead. Nathan and Lewis were undertaking the work for this project and were at my property for 3 days. Despite the horrendous weather and strong winds both of them soldiered through the days and did a tremendous job of removing everything that had accumulated on the red brick over that last 100 years or more and were persistent in ensuring they cleaned every single part of the property. They were keeping me up to date throughout the project and explaining things to me whilst in parallel sending me before and after pictures/videos each day so I could see the difference. The end results were amazing, and the methods used have really brought [out] the original red brick back and revived the property. I would highly recommend Stone Revival to anyone who is considering having any brick or stone cleaning work done. Great work and delivered in such a professional and friendly way. A 10 out of 10.”
